Students are referred to our school from Nassau and Suffolk Counties and New York City when their educational goals cannot be met in their local school district. Our program provides educational and therapeutic services to children between the ages of five and twenty-one, who have autism and/or developmental disabilities. Our twelve-month educational school is approved by the New York State Education Department and our goal is to increase every student's level of independence so he or she is able to participate more effectively in the community.

Instructional services include special education classroom instruction, art therapy, music therapy, physical education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing services, psychological services, psychiatric services, community volunteerism, vocational training, speech and language services, and family services. Classroom educational goals are in the following curriculum domains: daily living skills, language and communication, academics, leisure and recreation, vocational skills, and community integration.

Clinical Services:

As an integral part of the collaborative model of education employed at The Center, the speech/language department now provides services within the classroom setting. Additional supports for those students who present greater behavioral and emotional challenges are provided by psychology and social work. The result is better integration of clinical and educational services.

Nursing Services:

The goals of the nursing department in the children's programs are to assist the children to maintain health and well being, teach positive health practices, prevent illness, and provide care for illness and injury when it occurs. Nursing seeks to prepare the children to have an increasing awareness of and responsibility for their health care. Nursing is a resource for the children and their families, assisting them in identifying health care needs and in obtaining health care services.
