This past year, the Center for Developmental Disabilities, Inc. marked our 50th anniversary as an organization that proudly serves people with autism, mental retardation, and other forms of developmental disabilities. This journey began in 1958 with six families in need. Today, we boast of serving over three hundred families, employing over four hundred staff and providing an array of services worth 25 million dollars each year. But more importantly, we boast helping people with developmental disabilities create lives filled with dignity, respect and of meaning.
The people that we serve have taken their rightful place in the community; attending day programs at our campuses in Woodbury and Hicksville, and enjoying residential services in our eighteen locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. They have been embraced by neighborhoods in Woodbury, Jericho, Plainview, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa, East Meadow, Farmingdale, Babylon and Huntington. We extend our gratitude to all the fine people of these communities who have helped us turn houses into homes.
This is why we will continue to hold true to our mission of helping children, adolescents and adults with differing abilities achieve their dreams by overcoming barriers to living, learning, working and enjoying recreational activities in the community of their choice.
